William C. Hoh was born in Hong Kong and spent his childhood in San Francisco, California.  He arrived at New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) as a new cadet in the fall of 1974.  He received an Associate of Arts degree from NMMI in May of 1976; and shortly after, began his studies which led to a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and systematic ecology from San Francisco State University; and a Master of Arts degree in East Asian Culture and Languages from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

 

Mr. Hoh began his government service as an infantry officer in 1978, after completing Infantry Officers Basic Course along with Airborne and Ranger schools.  With his language skills, he was selected as a China Foreign Area Officer as his alternative military specialty.  Mr. Hoh moved into the intelligence arena in 1989 as an intelligence analyst and later transitioned into the Human Intelligence (HUMINT) career field.  His assignments have included a number of key operational, staff and management positions to include operations officer, team chief, senior intelligence officer, instructor, deputy chief of military group at an interagency school and, lastly, chief of current operations with the Office of Field Operations.

Mr. Hoh has received numerous civilian and military awards recognizing his accomplishments as a HUMINT collector which include the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement, Defense Intelligence Agency Directors Award, Defense Intelligence Agency’s Meritorious Civilian Service Award, and the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Meritorious Service Medal among others.

Mr. Hoh was most recently appointed to the Defense Intelligence Agency’s senior level position of senior expert for HUMINT Collection Operations, Defense Counterintelligence and HUMINT Center (DX).  His responsibilities include oversight for all HUMINT collection operations conducted by Field Operating Base-Japan and its subordinate detachments.  This position is the equivalent of an Army brigadier general.

For Eminence in his Field and his adherence to the NMMI credo of “Duty, Honor and Achievement”, Mr. William C. Hoh 1976 JCG is hereby inducted into the NMMI Hall of Fame.
